For thousands of years, humankind has been searching for ways to prevent aging and asking whether eternal life is possible. The “Fountain of Youth” in Greek mythology and the “Water of Life” (Ab-ı Hayat) in Anatolian folk tales are both signs of this age-old quest.

Aging is the sum of all changes that arise naturally over time, beginning with fertilization. It is a process of deterioration. What is being measured is the shortening of lifespan and the increasing risk of damage to the organism. Aging is, with each passing chronological year, drawing ever closer to death with increasing probability.

The elderly population is the fastest-growing group in the world's population. According to demographic research, people over the age of 65 are considered to belong to the elderly class. This rapidly growing elderly population currently makes up 10% of the world's population. Research shows that this proportion will reach 60% by the year 2030.

Anti-aging is not a fad. It is a guide that keeps us vigorous, energetic, alert, and healthy at every moment of our lives. Aging is the gradual decline of a person's normal physical and mental functions. Although it is not possible to prevent the aging process, which is influenced by a great many different factors, it is possible to delay it. Moreover, the concept of “quality aging” has long since taken its place in the medical literature.

The branch of medicine devoted to delaying, slowing, and at times even reversing the aging process is known as “anti-aging” medicine.

What recommendations should we give our patients? What should they pay attention to, which medicines and vitamins should they use or avoid, what should they eat or not eat, and how should sport and exercise be arranged? Are these measures enough on their own? Do we also need certain treatments? What are the side effects of the vitamins and trace elements given to so many patients?
