Our immune system is like our "health savings account." Eating healthily, engaging in sufficient physical activity, sleeping well, being at peace, staying away from toxic substances, alcohol, and cigarettes that we know are harmful to the body, having a healthy sex life, and maintaining a positive state of mind all mean making regular deposits into this account.

If there is a certain amount of savings in our health account—that is, if our immune system is functioning well—then when a situation arises that requires a withdrawal from this account, such as illness, our immune system will be in a position to fight the disease.

If, due to reasons such as an irregular lifestyle, alcohol, smoking, inactivity, excess weight, excessive consumption of animal-based foods, an unhappy life, poor-quality sleep, and intense stress, there are no savings in our account, then our body, when faced with any illness, will have laid the groundwork for a very serious disease to take root.

In this case, since we also have no possibility of taking out a loan when we encounter an illness, going bankrupt and hitting rock bottom in terms of health becomes only a matter of time. In fact, in our daily lives, we encounter microorganisms that could make us sick at every moment. If we have sufficient savings in our health account and our immune system is functioning well, we are often not even aware of the battle we wage against the microorganisms we are exposed to. However, when our immune system is weak, situations that would not cause illness in many people cause very serious diseases in us.

EVEN IF WE FACE CANCER...

Our immune system is very important for our health. The investments we make in our immune system are an important resource that will protect us from very serious diseases. If we have invested sufficiently in our immune system, our body will be in a position to carry on the necessary fight even if we face one of the most serious diseases—cancer.

As I have examined in great detail in the relevant chapters of my books "Why We Live Wrong" and "Discover Life," it is very important for every patient to first take a comprehensive history, determine the state of the immune system, assess the levels of toxic substances accumulated in the body, investigate which foods the person is sensitive to and which substances they are allergic to, determine the state of the intestinal flora, and evaluate past illnesses and their temporal relationship. These investigations help us understand the patient's overall state of health and establish the priority order for the treatments we will carry out. The goal is, first, to treat any existing disease, to identify risk factors for disease, and to support protection against diseases that are highly likely to emerge in the future.

However, in most cases—especially in our country—we find that the immune system has hit rock bottom in most of the patients who come to our clinic already diagnosed with cancer. Not seeing a doctor, or not having gone to one, is often presented as a point of pride. Yet if you see doctors not because you are sick but in order not to become sick, you ensure that there are always savings in your health account.

RISK TO OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

The most important cause weakening our immune system is our poor diet. The foods we consume at our table every day today are extremely insufficient in providing the essential nutrients needed for a strong immune system.

The chemicals used while growing or preserving food, the unsuitable conditions in which food is grown, improper transport of food from distant regions, improper cultivation of food, unsuitable processing, storage, and cooking methods at factories, spray pesticides applied to fruits and vegetables, and harmful additives such as excessive sugar or salt added to food all pose a risk of weakening our immune system.

In my next article, I will address the topic of "What needs to be done to strengthen the immune system."
