Is iodine scientifically a cure-all?

"The commonly heard folk expression 'iodine is a cure for everything' is, in fact, not scientifically accurate."

However, iodine is a fundamental and indispensable mineral for human biology. Because so many systems are disrupted at once when it is deficient, a very wide range of improvement is observed once it is replenished. This has at times led iodine to be perceived as a "miracle" substance.

1. WHY IS IODINE SO IMPORTANT?

Iodine is an indispensable part of the structure of thyroid hormones (T3 = 3 iodine atoms, T4 = 4 iodine atoms).

Thyroid hormones govern many processes such as metabolism, cellular energy, brain function, immunity, digestion, reproductive health, body temperature, bowel movements, and growth and development. For this reason, its deficiency produces wide-ranging symptoms.

2. WHY DOES IODINE DEFICIENCY PRODUCE SUCH VARIED FINDINGS?

Because many systems besides the thyroid also need iodine: the brain, breast tissue, ovaries, prostate, immune system, mitochondria, intestinal motility, and ECM balance.

Deficiency causes a wide range of complaints such as fatigue, weight gain, feeling cold, constipation, hair loss, depression, palpitations, menstrual irregularity, cysts, and weakened immunity.

3. EXCESS IODINE IS ALSO HARMFUL

Just as much as deficiency, excess can also trigger Hashimoto's, lead to hyperthyroidism, and worsen thyroiditis. For this reason, random high-dose use is not scientific. High-dose iodine can be even more harmful when there is a selenium deficiency.

4. SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN BENEFITS

- Thyroid hormone synthesis

- Prevention of goiter

- Reduced risk of hypothyroidism

- Brain development in the fetus and infant

- Regulatory effect on breast tissue

- Ovarian and prostate health

- Strong local antiseptic effect

5. IODINE FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF REGULATION MEDICINE

Many processes, such as mitochondrial energy, intestinal motility, parasympathetic tone, ECM density, and brain fog, are influenced through the thyroid. For this reason, when iodine levels are corrected, regulatory capacity increases markedly.

Iodine is not a cure-all; however, iodine deficiency is one of the fundamental biochemical causes of many illnesses. Used in the right dose, at the right time, together with selenium, it is a powerful tool in regulation medicine.
