What Happens When the Body Becomes Acidic

If your body is acidic, it means you are lacking the important bases needed to keep the acid-base balance at a healthy level. This is mainly caused by an improper diet consisting of more than 25% acid-forming foods, which places a heavy burden on the liver, kidneys, intestines, and skin.

While some organs require an acidic environment for their functions, other parts of the body need to be alkaline. Many health problems arise from the body becoming excessively acidic and, as a result, from the increasing difficulty of maintaining the acid-base balance. In regulation medicine and complementary medicine, the cause of many diseases is a high level of acidity in the body. In the modern medicine approach, doctors do not focus as much on the topic of acidosis, and a diet made up of acid-producing foods in the body is also considered unhealthy in this approach.

Diet is the most important trigger causing the body to become excessively acidic. This is because acidic or alkaline substances are produced at the end of the digestive process.

Excess sugar, white flour, meat, fish, eggs, peas, cola, dairy products, and coffee are toxic to the body unless sufficiently offset by alkaline foods. A diet consisting of one-quarter acid-forming foods and three-quarters alkaline foods is considered optimal. Fruits, herbs, vegetables, potatoes, and nuts are alkaline foods. Excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and stress also have a negative effect on the acid-base balance.

SYMPTOMS OF ACIDOSIS IN THE BODY

The following symptoms are considered signs of long-term acidosis:

  • Headache
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Excess weight
  • Digestive system complaints
  • Skin problems
  • Dental problems
  • Bone problems
  • Widespread infections

Some experts report that susceptibility to allergies or infections is linked to acidosis.

The signs of the body becoming excessively acidic vary widely. If you have serious complaints, you should consult a doctor.

The diagnosis of latent acidosis can be made through laboratory tests and certain special tests, but it can also be made easily through the information provided by the patient, clinical observation, and physical examination.
