Chronic pain is a condition lasting longer than three months that seriously affects individuals' quality of life.

While traditional pain management approaches generally aim only to suppress symptoms, neural therapy (NT) provides more comprehensive treatment by targeting the underlying causes of pain. Neural therapy plays an effective role in chronic pain management by correcting disorders in the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and the body's broader regulatory systems.

1. UNDERSTANDING CHRONIC PAIN: BEYOND SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT

Chronic pain is not just a persistent discomfort, but a complex condition affecting many systems, including the nervous system, the immune system, and emotional regulation. While acute pain provides a protective function against injury, chronic pain can continue even after tissue healing. The main factors contributing to chronic pain are:

  • Nervous System Disorders: Abnormal changes in the nervous system can increase pain perception.
  • Chronic Inflammation: Ongoing inflammation can sustain or intensify pain.
  • Disturbance Fields: Disturbance foci such as old wounds, surgical scars, or dental problems can cause pain by disrupting normal nerve conduction.
  • Psychosocial Factors: Stress and emotional burdens can worsen the perception of pain.

2. NEURAL THERAPY: CONCEPT AND MECHANISM

Neural therapy offers an innovative approach to chronic pain treatment by regulating the ANS and correcting disturbance fields. It provides a balancing effect on the nervous system through the injection of local anesthetics such as procaine.

2.1. THE BASIC MECHANISMS OF NEURAL THERAPY

Neural therapy relieves pain through the following mechanisms:

  • Regulation of the Autonomic Nervous System: The balance of the ANS helps reduce pain signals.
  • Breaking Pathological Reflex Arcs: Breaking abnormal pain reflexes in the nervous system resets the body's pain responses.
  • Elimination of Disturbance Fields: Neural therapy relieves pain by re-regulating nerve communication in disturbance fields.
  • Regulation of Inflammation: Chronic inflammation is reduced through the anti-inflammatory effects of local anesthetics.

3. TYPES OF CHRONIC PAIN THAT NEURAL THERAPY CAN MANAGE

3.1. MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN

Musculoskeletal disorders such as muscle spasms, osteoarthritis, and lower back pain can be managed with neural therapy. For example, a patient with facet joint syndrome can achieve a noticeable improvement following procaine injections.

3.2. NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Neuropathic pain types such as diabetic neuropathy and sciatica can be effectively treated with neural therapy, which corrects nerve function.

3.3. HEADACHES AND MIGRAINE

Neural therapy can be effective in the treatment of chronic headache and migraine. In particular, injections applied to the occipital nerves reduce headache frequency.

  1. FUNCTIONAL IMPROVEMENT WITH NEURAL THERAPY

Chronic pain management involves not just relieving pain, but also increasing the individual's overall functionality. Neural therapy, by bringing pain under control, enables the improvement of daily activities and quality of life.
