Know why you're eating... The real problem is starch
The real problem here is starch. Because starch is a polysaccharide, it is first converted into disaccharides in the intestines and then turned into glucose in the blood.
Bread, pasta, sugar, sweets and various grain products contain quite a lot of starch. Excess glucose in the blood that cannot be burned right away is converted into fat and stored in the body for later use. This is considered one of the major causes of obesity. The starch we're referring to here is the starch found in refined carbohydrates. In complex carbohydrates, however—that is, vegetables, fruit, and rice and grain products whose natural structure has not been tampered with—there is no such danger. This is why people who don't eat animal products such as meat, cheese and eggs also experience weight gain problems, and may even become heavier. This is because animal foods also contain protein, whereas starchy foods contain almost no protein at all.
The real cause of high blood pressure is excessive consumption of animal foods (meat, cheese and eggs) and dough-based foods (white-flour products), together with lack of physical activity. White flour contains no vitamins or minerals.
Bread made from wholemeal flour, on the other hand, contains B1, B2, B3, β-carotene (provitamin A) and vitamin E, along with copper, manganese, magnesium, phosphate, iron and zinc. Fibrous foods (wholemeal flour, flaxseed, oatmeal, fruit and vegetables) bind bile acid, allowing bile to be excreted with stool. To replace the lost bile, cholesterol in the blood is transported to the liver and used to produce bile acid. This lowers the level of cholesterol in the blood. Fibrous foods are broken down by bacteria in the large intestine into short-chain fatty acids. These short-chain fatty acids prevent cholesterol formation. This in turn lowers the level of cholesterol in the blood. As blood fat decreases and arterial stiffening is prevented, the nutrients cells need are delivered more effectively, increasing the person's energy and restoring their health.
Considering how heavily products made from white flour are consumed in our country, it could be said that Turks are a nation with protein, mineral and vitamin deficiencies (avitaminosis).
White sugar—today, the consumption of sugar and sugary foods has become extremely widespread. Natural sugar is not harmful because it also contains vitamins, minerals and enzymes in its structure. Brown sugar, used in the past, is a healthy, natural sugar. Years ago, honey and grape molasses were used as sweeteners. Sugar obtained from sugar beet was natural in its early form, but through the continuous development of new methods, the white sugar consumed today contains no vitamins, minerals, enzymes or amino acids whatsoever. Moreover, the most valuable part of the sugar beet is used to make animal feed. White sugar raises blood sugar levels suddenly, because lacking vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids, it passes into the bloodstream very quickly.
While blood sugar levels rise on one hand, the inability of insulin—which is responsible for carrying it into cells—to be secreted sufficiently eventually leads to diabetes. For this reason, white sugar should be avoided.
Many illnesses are linked to eating quickly, eating too much, and consuming excessive amounts of animal-based food. This disrupts the intestinal flora. Because of this disturbed balance, beneficial bacteria decrease while harmful bacteria, dangerous fungi and viruses take over, and unexpected illnesses emerge. Animal-based foods, especially meat and meat products, should be consumed no more than twice a week.
While Asians eat rice, seafood, vegetables and fruit; Europeans eat potatoes, cabbage, fruit, vegetables and animal products; and Africans eat vegetables, fruit and grains, in Turkey, particularly among wealthier people, animal foods such as meat, cheese and eggs, along with refined-flour products and drinks such as alcohol, Fanta and cola, are consumed to a degree that borders on illness.
Beverages—when we think of nutrition, food is usually the first thing that comes to mind, yet beverages are equally important. This is because they can throw our entire digestive system into disarray. For example, drinking black tea for long periods and in excessive amounts dries out the intestines and disrupts digestive function. The diuretic—that is, urine-inducing—property of black tea is now well known. Yet people already don't drink enough water. Adding extra tea on top of this causes the loss not only of water, which is so important for the organs, but also of many minerals. Like tea, continuous and excessive consumption of coffee can lead to a number of ailments, gastritis being foremost among them. However, drinking 1-2 cups of coffee during the day causes no problem. Rather than instant or filter coffee, it is better to drink Turkish coffee or coffee filtered in a cup.
Among acidic beverages, sugary lemonade, cola and similar drinks come first. These drinks, which quickly become acidic, disrupt the acid-base balance of the blood and tissues, causing acidosis. Furthermore, due to the excessive amount of sugar they contain, they erode bone and weaken digestion.
Drinking sufficient water throughout a detox program in order to neutralize and eliminate acidic toxins accumulated in tissue and blood is one of the basic principles. In fact, this principle also holds true for a healthy life in general. More detailed information about water is covered comprehensively in the section on water.
However, it would be appropriate to make the following brief note here. Water has a memory, and carries important information about where it comes from within it. Yet nowadays we drink water from plastic bottles far more than natural water. Plastic materials load water with unnatural, negative and harmful information.
Drinking two glasses of water before breakfast and meals creates an early feeling of fullness and prevents overeating. It is healthier to drink water half an hour before meals. Water should not be drunk during meals. Likewise, water should be drunk no sooner than half an hour after meals.
To summarize briefly, in a normal, healthy body, the blood and most bodily fluids should have a slightly alkaline quality, and the tissues and cells should be nourished with oxygen. Alkalinity and adequate tissue oxygenation are the conditions for being healthy and having a strong immune system. The two conditions pathogens need in order to survive in the human body are, on the other hand, high acidity and insufficient oxygen. This also holds true for cancer cells. Cancer is the fatal, final stage of tissue contamination. The best way to treat and prevent cancer is to make the blood and tissues alkaline and nourish them with oxygen, eliminating the conditions in which cancer cells can develop.
For a long and healthy life, setting aside a few days once or twice a year for detox will certainly be worth the time and effort you invest.
