What are the foods we need to stay away from

The food and beverage sector is a fundamental market that varies according to each country’s own production and cuisine.

What all living things need to sustain life are oxygen, food, and water. A healthy life depends not only on securing these basic needs, but also on their balanced intake, the quantity consumed, and their quality. When we speak of healthy eating, what is actually meant is a balanced, rotating diet.

It is mentioned everywhere, in every source, in every piece of advice: eat healthy! Eat a balanced diet! But how?

IT DOESN’T MEAN MUCH ONCE YOU’VE ALREADY FALLEN ILL

Let’s think of it simply: suppose you are going to grow a plant at home, or raise an animal. The first thing you think about is how it will be watered or what it will be fed. We need to show ourselves, throughout our entire lives, far more care than we show the living things we look after. I say “throughout our entire lives,” because unfortunately, efforts at healthy eating after we have already fallen ill and lost our health do not mean very much!

Nutrition is a habit. There are many factors that influence eating habits: family, regional, and personal.

Since nutrition is so important for a healthy life and for staying free of disease, we physicians bear an important responsibility in helping our people learn about this subject. We need to provide information about nutrition to everyone who consults us, but above all to our patients—to every single patient, without ever growing weary or tired of it… Healthy eating should be taught in schools as a separate subject. When health education begins early, confusion decreases.

What we need to understand by healthy eating is consuming every food group in a varied, rotating manner. As is well known, the food groups are: proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. This is always said and written, yet in my nearly twenty years as a physician, I have seen that most people know these names but do not know which food is a carbohydrate and which is a protein.

WHAT WE NEED TO STAY AWAY FROM...

To make a very general classification, grains, grain products, sugar and its derivatives are carbohydrates; meat, milk, and animal products are proteins. Legumes, meanwhile, have a natural carbohydrate-and-protein structure.

Rather than explaining what is in each food group, it will be easier to keep in mind the food groups we need to stay away from. At the top of the list of foods we must strictly keep out of our diet are refined foods—particularly processed carbohydrates that have lost their natural state and their nutritional benefit. The main culprits here are white flour, white sugar, and all forms of alcohol.

Take the first step yourself in treating chronic illnesses, painful conditions, allergies, digestive system diseases (constipation, gas, ulcers, reflux, etc.), and obesity, and stay away from refined foods. You will be the first to see the change in your own body.

We have emphasized the foods we need to stay away from. What we need to do is consume, on a rotating basis, the many varieties of natural vegetables, fruits, legumes, and grains found in nature. Even if it is a natural food group, eating the same food every day, at every meal, does not fit the definition of a rotating diet either.

CAN TURN HARMFUL

The content of fruit is natural carbohydrate, and fruit sugar is fructose. However, even though it is healthy, fructose consumed in large amounts converts into glucose and can therefore turn harmful.

By eating naturally, on a rotating basis, and with variety, we also obtain the vitamins and minerals we need. In this case, there is no need to take ready-made vitamin and mineral tablets from outside sources.

Recommendations:

- Choose whole grain flours and products instead of white flour.

- Stay away from white sugar and all foods containing white sugar.

- Use brown sugar instead of white sugar.

- Pay attention to the amount of food you eat.

- Watch for the moment you feel full, and stop eating, whatever you are eating, the moment you notice you are full.

- Take care not to eat too late at night.

- Do not drink water while eating.

- Do not consume fast food! (I suppose there’s nothing more that even needs to be said on this)

- Most importantly, make it a habit to consume healthy food groups on a rotating basis.
