Odatv's health columnist Doctor Hüseyin Nazlıkul writes that the secret to a long life lies in consuming a small amount of calories.

It is possible to extend lifespan by cutting daily calorie intake. Scientists are searching for ways to stay away from food without going hungry. A proverb the Chinese said three thousand years ago has taken on even more meaning today:

"Leave your dinner to your enemy"

There is a similar German proverb:

"Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a worker, and dinner like a beggar"

People who eat too much in the evenings become unwell first in the evenings, then later during the day, and eventually for the rest of their lives, and they themselves see that the illnesses they have make their lives unbearable, and are left astonished by the situation.

If we examine the past several thousand years, never before has as much and as varied food been made available to humanity as it is today. From an evolutionary standpoint, the human body is coordinated to withstand hunger. Humans, who could not constantly find food, would control themselves and limit their calorie expenditure when deprived of food.

When we examine the evolutionary process, we see that because people had difficulty finding food constantly and regularly, they sometimes went hungry, and even sometimes practiced fasting for health. Looking at the last few centuries, at no other point in time has human food consumption been this high.

Nature never had any concern about treating vascular diseases. In past years, our body never needed to secrete hormones in order to open up blocked heart vessels.

Today's humans, however, need this hormone secreted by their own body more than ever before. This hormone, which the human body did not produce in past years, will not be able to meet our growing need for it in the coming years, and due to the human body's inability to meet its own needs, the pharmaceutical industry will be forced to artificially produce this hormone.

Not eating in the evenings—that is, skipping dinner—has effects so fast and pronounced that they are astonishing. Eating only lunch in a given day and avoiding food intake for the rest of the day, skipping dinner, is worth trying for everyone.

You can see the results of not having eaten dinner with astonishment the next day when you get out of bed and stand in front of the mirror. Your face is lively and vigorous. Your skin is smooth and radiant. And of course, your skin is blemish-free and its color is flawless.

It's worth giving up dinner even just once to see a fresh, lively face in the mirror in the morning. In addition, this experiment you'll be conducting is completely safe and free of side effects.

The proven biological benefits of reducing calorie intake:

• Fewer free radicals

• Reduced cancer risk

• A stronger immune system

• Quality sleep

• Absence of chronic fatigue

• Formation and consumption of quality protein

• Increased resilience against stress
