Applying an alkaline-detoxification diet for 3-4 weeks — designed to cleanse the body's tissues of protein and acidic waste, and to eliminate inflammatory formations and degenerative changes as much as possible — is a very healthy method.

This method aims for a gentler but longer-lasting regimen, using a less strict approach, to free the body from excessive tension. This also makes it possible to lose weight in a more controlled way.

The food we consume is oxidized in the body, and therefore leaves behind waste. If the food consumed is acid-based, it naturally leaves behind acidic waste. As a result, these acidic waste products — sulfur, phosphorus, chlorine, or unburned acid radicals — accumulate in the body. All of these waste substances are harmful to our organism. Success in an alkaline-detox regimen begins primarily by eliminating acid-forming foods from what we eat. For this reason, the most important question to ask should not be "what should I eat," but "what should I not eat." This regimen is based on adding fresh fruit and vegetables, along with millet and sprouts, to the diet. On the other hand, a point that absolutely must be observed in this method is that each bite should be chewed at least 30 times, or even 50 times for better results. It is also important that drinking water be alkaline, that the cooking water of steamed vegetables be consumed, and that dinner be eaten no later than 6:30 p.m. When this method is applied, people may feel somewhat weak and run-down during the first few days of the regimen. A sense of health and well-being will return within two, or at most three, days. If the feeling of weakness and fatigue during this regimen persists for a long time, then you should definitely increase the amount of water you drink and make sure your large intestine is functioning regularly. However, if the feeling of hunger continues, you can consume small amounts — around 60-70 grams — of lean foods only in the early afternoon, preferably boiled fish, organic free-range chicken raised in open village conditions, lentils, and chickpeas.

In short:

Meals should be eaten sitting upright in a comfortable position.

• Each bite should be chewed slowly and thoroughly.

• Care should be taken to consume especially raw and/or steamed fresh vegetables at meals.

•Refined (processed) foods should not be consumed.

• Herbal tea should always be drunk after meals.

What You Should Pay Attention to During Detox

• Don't neglect skin detox — take advantage of steam baths, saunas, Turkish baths, and massage.

• Start your day with a glass of lukewarm water with half a lemon's juice added.

• Choose organic foods grown in an ecological farming environment.

• Don't use medication (painkillers, anti-gas remedies, antacids, etc.) unless absolutely necessary.

• Give up coffee, alcohol and cigarettes.

• Drink at least 2-2.5 liters of water throughout the day.

• Reduce the number of meals.

• Take care to consume five servings of vegetables and fruit every day.

• Don't neglect regular physical activity.

• Take advantage of vegetable and fruit juice blends. Make sure these blends include carrot, turnip or beet, apple, papaya, melon and kiwi.

• During the detox period, drink about two cups a day of fennel or dandelion tea.

• At night before bed, add a teaspoon of fresh honey to a cup of lukewarm water and sip it slowly. You'll find it helps control nighttime hunger.

• Try to meet your animal protein needs through fish and natural animal products.

• Take regular alternating hot and cold showers.

• Stay positive. Take care to spend time with loved ones, in settings that make you laugh or smile.

• Set aside time to rest.

• Visit your friends and elders. Create opportunities to spend more time with your spouse and children.

• Don't neglect to have fun.
