What Is Lymphatic Circulation?

Lymphatic circulation is the white blood circulation that collects edema in the body and delivers nutrients to cells and tissues. Lymphatic circulation cleanses the body of toxins. It strengthens the immune system, protecting the body from infections.

What Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage? How Is It Applied?

MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) massage is a technique in which the lymphatic system is manually manipulated to restore the free flow of blocked lymphatic fluid. It acts on the sympathetic nervous system, reducing pain and providing relief. It strengthens the immune system and accelerates lymph flow.

For Which Conditions Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage Preferred?

MLD Massage is not a stand-alone solution for the conditions experienced. It is a supportive method of application. It is frequently used in many conditions arising from lymphatic circulation disorders. It can be helpful in many situations, including the following.

How Often Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage Applied?

The duration and frequency of therapy is determined based on the condition specified by the individual. For example, in the case of acne, it is ideal to apply MLD Massage 3 times a week, for 20 minutes each session.

Who Can Perform Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

MLD Massage can be performed by trained professional specialists/therapists.

Does Manual Lymphatic Drainage Have Side Effects, and What Are Its Contraindications?

MLD has no side effects. It is an extremely relaxing and pleasant therapy. MLD should not be applied in cases of acute infection, cancer, asthma, vascular occlusion, or low blood pressure.

How Is MLD Massage, So Often Mentioned in Cosmetics, Applied in the Beauty Industry?

MLD also produces quite good results in beauty and aesthetics. However, in beauty applications (such as cellulite treatment), Lymphatic Drainage is applied regionally with machines. When MLD Massage is performed by hand, however, lymphatic fluid is directed from the extremities (the legs and arms) toward the heart, ensuring proper flow throughout the entire body as needed. For this reason, when applied regionally, it is, in a sense, not fully applied.

When MLD Massage is used for beauty purposes, it can support the skin's healing and rejuvenation process by lightening wrinkles, scars, and blemishes on the skin. This is because MLD Massage supports collagen production in the skin, which tightens the skin. This is also why MLD Massage revitalizes and rejuvenates the skin.

How Does Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage Differ from Other Massages?

The distinguishing feature of MLD Massage from other massages is that it is performed without using any products. In addition, compared to other massages, MLD Massage consists of very gentle, monotonous, and continuously repeated movements. It is performed in a single direction, following the flow of lymph from the extremities of the body toward the heart. Unlike other massages, the skin does not redden after MLD Massage.
